Just to assure all our fans, if there still are any fans out there, that the walls are almost up and sheathed. There WILL be a chalet in Cape Breton and we will have gone UP the road, returned to this ancestral place, like salmon surging upriver. Two side walls to the screened-in porch to go and all the main walls are assembled and up. Now we move on to the roof with its massive beams and the attics with their mini-beams. By Friday we are happy with the results and decide to take the weekend off to celebrate. In truth we celebrate all the time...
And how better to celebrate than go for a sail on lake Bras d'Or, the immense salty lake in front of this window, with Janet and Wayne. The photo of Wayne stumbling up into the rubber dinghy is a bit uncomplimentary but does catch the spirit of the swim we had in Johnston harbour right behind Campbell and Evans Islands. I was appointed timer of the 20 minute power nap after the grilled cheese sandwich lunch, washed down with a cold beer.
The reality is that life for anyone under retirement may be tough but for retirees it's perfect. The sad background to all this fun is the closing of the NewPage paper plant next month throwing 600 people out of work and dislocating a whole region.
