Why we are here on the 5th June 2012?

I won't bother you with a daily account of this struggle to make sense of the Cape Breton wilderness. I'll commit myself to Big Blog when I feel the need to communicate with the larger world.

Well, what are we doing here? Apart from getting over young Ben's cold which he transferred to me during our few days of wrestling in Donagh and Kate's Crane Lake wilderness, the objective of this pilgrimage is to get on with the house, which of course takes planning and materials. You can't build unless you have a great pile of stuff to build with. So, it's visits to various international (Home Depot, Walmart) and local stores (Central Surprize) to procure electrrical supplies, plumbing items and to generally get ready to carry on building. Central in Port Hawkesbury delivers up some basic electrical supplie, some insulation, some piping to drain the cistern. Home Depot, on the other hand, extends two toilets (elongated and extra tall), water purifying equipment, a stove exhaust fan and so on, all loaded onto the Canadian Tire trailer and hauled back to Cape George.

And still the spending orgy isn't stemmed! Spend on, old boy! You ain't got there yet.

So, it's Monday, a week after we arrived, anbd still I haven't had lobster. So we veer off to l'Ardoise (pronounced Lordways) to buy three healthy 2 lb lobster, open a bottle of German Pinot Grigio and celebrate at a distance Wayne's 50th birthday. We call him in Halifax but only get a stunned Duncan who must be wondering what's with these people over fifty.Don't worry, Duncan. We all wonder that.
