2nd October: Getting ready for winter

Just a little anxious about getting the house closed up now. The 2 by 6 wood (625 pieces in 12 foot lengths!) should have arrived on Friday but no sign of it. They call "Central Supplies" "Central Surprise" and I hope it doesn't mean we'll not get the wood by next week. Irony: it is coming from Montreal! You can see from the photos how the Master Builder trimmed off the beams giving the house a much neater look. In fact everything we do now makes it look more like a house and less like a adolescent fort in the wilderness. Iwas then given the job of building top pieces of wall between all the beams. The MB takes off for a couple of days medical tests and I finish my job. Beautiful sunny weather until the weekend when the rain comes again, filling the basement. We build the floor in the screened-in porch which is our first finished operation. We even have to go cut more wood to get enough 6 inch pieces. The floor is also among the photos. As we have four days to wait for the wood to shut the house we have decided to apply the Tyvek which should be fun. I can get Ciaran to help along with his Austrian friend, Dominic. I'd like to make them feel usseful, give Dominic a pioneer experience to take back to Austria.
